York Simcoe Baseball Association (YSBA) recommends to all member Local Associations to communicate with their respective members reinforcing that every precaution should be taken with the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

We recommend that all indoor and outdoor practices be cancelled effective immediately until at least April 5th. This is consistent with the actions undertaken by school boards, municipalities and other sports organizations. We will reassess a recommended course of action as we get closer to that date.

The health and safety of all our stakeholders (players, coaches, parents, umpires, volunteers, staff) is extremely important. Health experts indicate that COVID-19 is thought to spread mainly from person-to-person.

Between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet).
Through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes.

The following precautions are recommended:

wash your hands frequently
avoid contact with people who are sick
avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth
cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or into your elbow (not your hands)
wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place or after blowing your nose, cough or sneezing.
if soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol
maintain social distancing (1-2 metres) between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing
if you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early
stay at home and avoid others, except to get medical care, if you begin to feel unwell, even with mild symptoms such as a headache and slight runny nose
clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily
stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider
avoid shaking hands
